After Effect of GM Detox Diet

I had to post this as I'm really surprised.
I've just had my breakfast after a week of doing the GM detox diet. Before I started, I always had an Activia rhubarb yoghurt for breakfast.
I went food shopping and stocked up on these yoghurts as I'm now doing a low carb diet and thought the yoghurts would be good to have.

But, when I started eating it this morning, oh my word, it was vile!

It was incredibly sweet. It tasted like I was eating about six spoonfuls of sugar...yuck, it was horrible.

They didn't taste that sweet when I ate them before doing the detox. I'm amazed!

I may not have lost much weight - 5 1/4 pounds - but it's obviously retrained my tastebuds to dislike anything sweet, which is great.

So it's worth doing even if just to make you realise what things really do actually taste like.

Final Day GM Detox Diet

Well, day seven is here! Phew, it's been a long week, but not as hard as I'd expected.

I weighed myself this morning. I was going to wait until tomorrow, but seeing as I'm eating brown rice today - which might increase my weight - I did it today. I've lost...

...5 1/4 pounds.

Which is good for a week I guess. I kind of hoped it'd be more, but it's better than nothing. If I'd done some exercise every day too, I might have lost more, but I just haven't had the energy. Walking the dog up our steep hill has worn me out, and I can usually do that no problem, I even jog bits of it.

I have walked the dog twice today, so that's at least some exercise.

So, day seven's meals. Breakfast was melon and two cups of water, lunch was brown rice and vegetables- I cooked the rice and then stirfried it with broccoli, cabbage and chilli - dinner is rice and vegetables, so I'll stirfry it again.
As usual you have to drink plenty of water.

I'll be glad to start eating more food, but I'm sticking to a low carb diet next, and hopefully I'll lose the two stone by the summer.

I hope you've found this interesting, if you're thinking of doing it, go for it, it's not as hard as you think.

Day Six GM Detox Diet

Woohoo, day six, almost there!

Another day of beef - ugh, but I can also have soup and vegetables.

I had the soup for breakfast - I must admit it'll be nice to get back to having proper breakfast things as I've had, jacket potato, beef, and soup for breakfast, which I find really odd.

Anyway, I then had a beef burger for lunch, ugh, and I've got beef again for dinner.
It's a thin piece of steak, but I'm allowed vegetables too, so, I'll slice it into slivers and stir fry it with broccoli and cabbage, in some vegetable and sesame oil. I'll add some chilli flakes too.
Thank heavens it's a non meat day tomorrow.

Brown rice and vegetables on my last day, and I'm allowed some melon to snack on. 1 cup of rice to last all day, so I'll fill up with vegetables, and drink plenty of water too.

I've been feeling a bit yucky again today. My bones hurt, that's the only way I can describe it. It must be due to lack of a certain nutrient/vitamin, so hopefully it'll be better when I go back to a more regular eating plan.

I've had no tea, coffee or alcohol for seven days, so I'm looking forward to a nice strong cup of tea. I haven't missed alcohol or sweet things, surprisingly. The two things I'm craving are savoury - cheese, and potatoes - nothing else really. I'd have thought I'd be desperately craving all sorts, but I'm not.

I think drinking so much water helps as it makes you feel full up. It does have a side effect of making you need to pee a lot though!

See you tomorrow, my last day. Have a good weekend xx

Day Five GM Detox Diet

Today is the worst food day so far.
It's a protein day, so nothing but beef and tomatoes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with lots of water to drink.
The beef can be as steak or a burger.
I've got rump steak, so that's what I've been having.
My hubby sliced it thin for me and I had a piece fried for breakfast, with a fried tomato. I put some of my garlic and herb seasoning on it, but it was still horrid.
I'm not a big meat eater, I only eat roast pork, the rest of the time I have Quorn products, so this is really hard for me.
My hubby went out shopping, and bought a couple of burgers from Waitrose, so I'll have one of those tonight, but I'm not looking forward to it.
Physically, I feel fine. I've got over the headache and light-headedness, but I'm still feeling the cold.
That's a lack of carbohydrates I think.
Only two more days to go after today...I can't believe I've stuck with this and haven't found it that hard to do.
Beef again tomorrow, with vegetables, and soup if I want it, then brown rice and vegetables on Sunday, which I'll actually enjoy more than today's food!

Day Four GM Detox Diet

Here we are at day four and I feel better than I did yesterday.
I enjoyed my dinner last night - cabbage, broccoli and tomatoes stirfried in some vegetable oil and toasted sesame oil, with chilli flakes. You're allowed to use a little oil and butter, so I've been saving it for my vegetable meals. I stirfried it for ages until the cabbage went crispy, it was really tasty.

Today it's bananas, milk, and soup.
I had a banana and cup of warm skimmed milk for breakfast, I've just had a bowl of the vegetable soup - recipe below - for my lunch, mid afternoon I'll have a banana milkshake, and dinner is soup and a banana.
My headache has gone and I'm not light-headed anymore.

It's quite a restricted detox, but I haven't found it hard to do. I'm not really craving anything either...yet!
The only drawback is I'm really cold. It's freezing down here in Devon anyway, but the lack of carbs and protein is making it worse. A good excuse to stay snuggled up in bed ;)

I can have beef tomorrow...yippee! It has to be either a piece of steak or a burger, with tomatoes, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm not much of a meat eater usually, but I'll need the protein, so I'll eat a bit. Not sure how I feel about steak for breakfast though!

Here's the soup recipe for anyone that wants it. You can eat as much of this as you like, but I stick to having it for meals.

3 onions - it said 6 but I halved some of the ingredients as I didn't want to make too much.
A bunch of celery.
2 green peppers.
1/2 a green cabbage - it said 1 cabbage but again I felt that was too much.
A large tin of tomatoes.
Chicken stock and water.
Salt and pepper.

Chop all the veg and soften in a large pan before adding the chicken stock, seasoning and enough water - depending on your preferred consistency. Simmer for at least 45 minutes. I did mine for an hour.
Either serve as it is, or blend to a smooth soup. I prefer my soup thickish and smooth so I blended it.

It's a bit bland, but I've got a garlic and herb grinder, so I put some of that in it, which gave it some taste. You can add chilli too.

That's all for today, I'll post again tomorrow x

Day Three GM Diet Detox

Well I managed half hour on the treadmill yesterday and felt really good, but that didn't last long!
I feel awful this morning. My bones ache, I'm lightheaded, have no energy, and have a headache.
But I knew there'd be side effects as my body detoxes, so hopefully it's only temporary and I'll soon get over it.
Fruit and veggies today. I really enjoyed my fruit breakfast - after eating bland veggies all day yesterday it was nice to have the sweetness of the fruit.
I'm drinking hot water as the weather is so cold, and it's actually quite nice - tea and coffee not allowed - and it adds to my quota of water.
I'm not going to try to exercise today, don't have the energy for it. I've walked the dog for fifteen minutes, so that'll have to do.
Bananas and veg soup tomorrow - woohoo, ha ha. I never thought I'd get excited about veg soup and bananas!
If I haven't lost any weight at the end of the week, I'll be disappointed, but if not, it's still given my body a good detox. I'll then start on my low carb diet, and step up the exercise.

Catch you all tomorrow xx

Detox & Diet - my experience on the GM diet. Days one and two...

My husband's brother and his wife visited at the weekend and told us about a seven day detox they do to kickstart off their diet. It's called the GM diet - apparently it was something General Motors got their employees to do, but this isn't confirmed.
It's a restrictive diet, but I thought I'd give it a go as I'd like to lose two stone.

So, yesterday was Day One, and all I could eat was fruit - they recommend lots of melon - and lots of water to drink - 10-15 glasses.
I thought it would be harder than it actually was. I'm used to drinking water anyway because of my kidney problems, and eating nothing but fruit was actually nice after stuffing myself with junk food since Christmas.

Day Two - today I eat nothing but vegetables - carrots, corn and peas not allowed - with more water, but I'm also allowed a bowl of their veggie soup when I want it. This is a soup made with onions, green peppers, celery, cabbage, tomatoes, salt, pepper and chicken stock. It's a bit bland, but good if you want something hot.
You have a baked potato for breakfast on day two, with a small amount of butter, which was really nice, then any vegetables, including salad veg - raw or cooked - througout the day.
They recommend that you do around 10-15 minutes of gentle exercise each day so that your metabolism doesn't slow too much. I've walked the dog, I'll do fifteen minutes on the treadmill later.

There are some side effects such as headaches and feeling tired as the days go on, but I'm okay so far.
I'll check in tomorrow and let you know how I'm getting on.

Anyone interested in trying this, just Google GM diet.

Once the seven days are up, I'll then go onto my usual low carb diet. Things like bread and pasta are my downfall, so I'll avoid those, do thirty minutes on the treadmill six days a week, and hopefully I'll lose the two this space!
